The warm weather has arrived and the run-off has picked up the pace. The Fork has doubled in a week and the Colorado has trebled. There is only one destination for the moment, and that is the Frying Pan where the Bureau pushed up the flows to 250cfs.
It will remain hot for a day or so and then there is a chance of rain and snow on higher elevations with temperatures dropping to the mid 40's for 2 days. After that it will start to get warm again. So the window for clearing water on the Fork is maybe a day or so mid week.
So the most reliable destination at the moment is the Frying Pan.
As predicted the Bureau has pushed up the flows in the Pan to a very manageable 200cfs. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Recommended Flies:Use midges, bwos, and egg patterns.
For mysis at the dam use Mike's Mysis. epoxy mysis, and BDV mysis.
The midges will come off during the day, particularly if it is sunny. So try Wilson's Reverse Candy Cane #20, red and black chironocones #20, nick's larva in miracle pink, olive, and purple back, brassies #18 - #22, midge larva patterns #18 - #22, copper johns #18 - #22, rainbow warriors, black polywings #18 - #22 and bling midges # 18 - #22.
In addition try dry patterns such as the z-wing real midge, black cdc midge and any similar dry black and gray patterns in sizes from #20 through to #26.
The fish are taking generic nymphs such as pheasant tails and caddis larva patterns. The BWO's are coming off as well. Try emerger patterns such as rs2's and WD-50's.
For BWO naturals use standard BWO's, parachute BWO's, parachute Adams, and Thorax patterns.
Current Flow: near Emma - 460cfs (if you want more uptodate figures check out current readings on our "Links" page).
The Fork flows have doubled in the last week and will keep on rising with the prediction for more hot weather for the next few days. We may get a cold break for a couple of days, and that will slow the rise a little. That will clear the water for a day or so, but by next weekend it will be getting warm to hot again. Just come up to the Frying Pan while the flows are a very comfortable 250cfs.
The flows in the Colorado has trebled in the past week. Don't bother to think about it unless you just want a very fast raft trip. Just come up to the Frying Pan.
