Flies
We have introduced a number of new flies and sizes this year so that by the start of the season we will have over 2000 patterns and sizes of flies on hand to satisfy your requirements while visiting us. Some of the patterns we have tied exclusively for ourselves in response to specific requests from our guides and our staff. In other cases we have had special sizes tied of existing patterns where we think that the size adjustment will work well. A good example is the prince nymph where we are having them tied down to #24. Some midge patterns we are having tied down to #32!! We carry tippet down to 12x for such small flies.
We are continually exploring new patterns and introducing new flies to try and make your fishing experience memorable.
Each year we look at the new patterns coming on to the market to see if any will catch fish as well as catching our eye. We are meeting a number of very clever designers who are pushing the limits and we love it. We want to test the flies ourselves then we will let you in on the new developments as they prove themselves.
So come by the shop on your next visit and take a look. The new patterns will be coming in over the next 6 months. In all we are introducing about another 700 patterns and sizes. We try our best to have the definitive range. We live by the motto that "he who has the most flies wins". We have to say that at the moment we are in front by a country mile!!
We also make a point of keeping a lot of older patterns which have fallen out of fashion. Insects don't evolve as quickly as trout patterns. The trout get used to having eveything thrown at them so from time to time an older pattern which they might not have seen will pay dividends. So we try to maintain as many of the older patterns as we can. We get many patterns specially tied because they are no longer available from the manufacturers from their general stocks.
In a water as popular as the Frying Pan the trout get to visit with all manner of flies and presentations in the course of the season. That is one reason why it is always worth dropping us a line or having a chat with our staff to get the current conditions. They will gladly give you the latest advice on what is working and if necessary the techniques necessary to employ in presenting the flies.
We have our flies tied by a number of well known companies to obtain the best range of patterns available.

We also have a member of our team who ties flies with which we experiment and test before giving them to the commercial companies to tie for us.
In addition we carry a range of saltwater flies which you might find useful on your next trip for bonefish, tarpon or permit.

We have found that a number of fishermen from all over the country are beginning to come to us simply to fill in gaps in their collections of flies. It may be an older pattern which has fallen into disfavor and is not generally available. This year for instance we are getting some breadcrust patterns tied up which have not been generally available for years. We also get existing patterns tied in either smaller or larger sizes than are generally available. The #22 and #24 prince mentioned above are good examples.
If you are doing an early season check and find that your local fly shop does not have a pattern or a size you want, give us a call and see if we can help. We will gladly take your order and if we can fill it we will post the flies out to you.
We are here to help and would love to hear from you.
