Thank you for a wonderful experience at the Frying Pan Anglers Spring (28 April – 5 May 2018) guide school. You clearly have a great school that can be geared to the needs of each of the students. I was not interested in becoming a guide but was interested in learning more about fly fishing and getting on the oars of a drift boat. I did both and had a good time while doing it. In addition we covered bugs, flies imitating them, fishing techniques, leaders, knots and more. If I had wanted to get guiding experience, I know you would've had me doing it while watching over my shoulder and giving me pointers. Your accommodations are top shelf and everyone I met from the shop was friendly and professional. I went away with numerous new friends. I've been fly fishing for 50 years and am still learning so I'll be back again!.

I would like to thank the Frying Pan Angler team for a great experience at the guide school! My first impression was seeing the beautiful shop in Basalt ably run by Marty. Then being set up in an incredible, newly renovated cabin right on the Frying Pan River was way above expectations. However, the true value of the school was learning from head guide and lead instructor Cameron. Cameron is an excellent teacher and brave soul for putting me on the oars from day one in his new drift boat. For a student who wanted to learn drift boat technique, I don't think there is a better and more patient coach than Cameron. The guy is a real pro and not to mention a great guide and fisherman in his own right. Also, a guy who passes on the stoke of fishing! ( a double of 20 plus Browns!) I appreciated all the guides who fished with us, hung out, tied flies, and shared info.
Thanks again to Warwick and Robyn, FPA 's owners, and their team.

Frying Pan Anglers,
My 8 days at Frying Pan Anglers Fall Guide School was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Cam, Woody, Ed and the rest of the highly qualified staff provided all students with the fundamentals to be a fly fishing guide anywhere throughout the country. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about fly fishing, rowing and the guiding industry as a whole. The accommodations at Frying Pan River Lodge were more than amazing! Even if you are unsure you want to pursue a career as a fly fishing guide, this is the perfect vacation to share the passion of fly fishing with others and walk away with tons of new techniques and skills.
I believe you guys prepared me well to be a successful fly fishing guide.
Thanks for everything!
Subject: Testimonial for the Frying Pan Anglers Guide School
After having gone on my first guided float trip 3 years ago in Montana, I couldn't stop obsessing about getting a drift boat. I happened upon the Frying Pan Anglers display a year later at the Denver Fly Fishing Show and decided on the spot to sign up for their first guide school because it emphasized rowing and I wanted to see what rowing on rivers was all about before buying a drift boat or raft.
My expectations were greatly exceeded! After that first school, I decided to buy a drift boat. Although I did not have plans to be an actual guide, I still did not feel comfortable taking friends out on the river as a novice rower. Fortunately, the folks at Frying Pan Anglers let me repeat the school as often as I like.
I just finished my fourth guide school in October 2016!
I plan to attend the school as often as I can as part of my yearly vacation schedule. Not only does the Frying Pan Anglers have some of the best rowing guides on the Colorado and Roaring Fork, the school provides a venue to meet follow fisherman and some real characters that I hope will be life long friends; not to mention my fishing skills have greatly approved.
So I highly recommend the Frying Pan Anglers Guide School for anyone planning on getting a raft or drift boat. It goes without saying this is a great school for those thinking of becoming fly fishing guides. My recommendation for those aspirants is to come to school with your A Game and treat the school as an 8-day long interview.
